About us

Part of something bigger, rooted in Chigwell.

Round Table is a club for men aged 18 to 45. A regular get-together, good company and a shared habit of helping out.

Our table

What Chigwell Round Table is about.

We're a group of local men who meet on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month to have a laugh, try things we wouldn't otherwise get round to, and put something back into the area we live in.

Some of us joined because we'd moved to the area and wanted to meet people. Some were dragged along by a mate. Most stayed because it turned out to be one of the best nights of the month.

Alongside the socials we run and support fundraising for local causes. It's a chance to do something useful with your spare time, with people you actually like spending it with.

18–45

Open to men in this age range, whatever your job, background or beliefs.

Our story

Where Round Table came from.

In 1927 Louis Marchesi, a young member of Norwich Rotary Club, felt there should be somewhere for the young business men of the town to meet regularly, swap ideas and play a part in civic life. The first Round Table met that March at Suckling House in Norwich.

The name and the motto came from a speech by the Prince of Wales that year, urging young men to get round the table, adopt methods that had proved sound in the past, adapt them to the changing needs of the time and, wherever possible, improve them.

From the start Round Table was non-political and non-religious, and it still is. Nearly a hundred years on, the idea has spread around the world.

The Round Table maxim
Adopt. Adapt. Improve.
